Below you will find a library of 3d animations providing the viewer to observe the tongue gestures required for individual sounds of the International Phonetic Alphabet. All animations were designed, modelled, rigged and animated by Judith McSpadden. Judith is an Irish voice and dialect coach with over 30 years experience in her field.

In a search for clear images of tongue gestures during speech, she became frustrated by the lack of resources available, so took it upon herself to create the images she was looking for. This began almost 5 years ago and led to undertaking a BA in Animation to fulfil her desire. Below is the culmination of her work to date.

Please note, the stylised 3d model is designed specifically for easy visualisation of the structures and gestures of articulation. It is purposefully anatomically funky to provide clarity for viewers with a limited anatomical background.
